How to add rain to your photo in PhotoShop

This tutorial will show you how to add rain to your image in Photoshop

This tutorial assumes you already have your picture open in Photoshop

We’ll need the Layers palette open for this tutorial

1) Click to expand the Layers palette

2) Drag it away from the edge to undock it

3) Click the New Layer icon to create a new layer

Now, we’ll render clouds on the layer

4) Go to the Filter menu…

5) …then Render

6) Select clouds

7) Change the opacity of the layer to 63%

Time to add some noise to the image

8) Again, go to the Filter menu

9) Go to Noise

10) Select Add Noise

11) Set the amount to 60

12) Choose Gaussian for the distribution

13) Check Monochromatic

14) Click OK

Don’t worry about the static in the image. We’re going to fix that with a motion blur

15) Go to Filter…

16) …Blur…

17) …Motion Blur

18) Set the angle to 73

19) Change the distance to 10

20) Click OK

21) To get rid of the hazy effect, right click on Layer 1…

22) …and select Blending Options

23) Set the blend mode to screen

24) Click OK

Finally, we’ll darken the background image to make it look more like a rainy day

25) Select the Background layer

26) Go to Image…

27) …Adjustments…

28) …Brightness/Contrast

29) Turn down the brightness

30) Turn up the contrast

31) Click OK

That’s it! You now know how to add rain to your image in Photoshop
