How to use the Blur, Sharpen and Smudge tools in PhotoShop

This tutorial will show you how to use the Blur, Sharpen & Smudge tools in Photoshop

This tutorial assumes you already have your picture open in Photoshop

1) Select the blur tool from the toolbar

The blur tool allows you to blur parts of an image without affecting the whole photo

2) Click the arrow to select a new brush hardness and size

3) Use the sliders to create a custom brush, or select a preset from the list

4) Click the arrow to adjust the brush strength

5) Use the slider to change the value

6) Click and drag in the image to blur a part of it

Now we’ll learn how to use the sharpen tool. Like the blur tool, the sharpen tool is used to sharpen a part of an image

7) Right click the blur tool

8) Select the sharpen tool from the list

You can choose a brush size and hardness and change the strength just like we did for the blur tool

9) Click and drag to sharpen a part of the image

Now, we’ll learn how to use the smudge tool. This tool smudges the pixels on a layer and is useful for blending colors together

10) Right click the sharpen tool

11) Select the smudge tool

Adjust the brush size and strength, if you wish, just like we did for the blur tool

12) Click and drag in the image to smudge an area
