How to use the Healing Brush and Patch tools in PhotoShop

This tutorial will show you how to use the Healing Brushes and Patch Tool in Photoshop

This tutorial assumes you already have your picture open in Photoshop

1) Select the Spot Healing Brush

The Spot Healing Brush uses the surrounding pixels to quickly re-create parts of an image

2) Simply click and drag in the image

While this may be the fastest way to touch up an image, it is not always the best. Sometimes, the Spot Healing Brush adds in unwanted pixels

For the next part, we will learn about the Healing Brush

3) Right click the Spot Healing Brush

4) Select the Healing Brush

The Healing Brush allows you to select a source that will be used instead of the surrounding pixels as before

5) Hold down the ALT key and click to select the source

6) Click and drag in the image

The last tool we’ll learn how to use is the Patch Tool. With this tool, we can select an entire area to fix

7) Right click the Healing Brush

8) Select the Patch Tool

9) Draw around an area that needs to be fixed

10) Now, click and drag the area to another part of the image that looks similar

11) Press CTRL + D to deselect

The patch tool also lets you select the destination area instead of the source

12) Click Destination

13) Select an area to patch from

14) Click and drag the area to another area of a similar color that needs to be fixed

Now, you can use the new area to continue touching up without having to re-select a different area each time

15) Continue using the same source to patch up all of the dots in the sky

Now, continue using any of the tools we just learned about to finish touching up your image

When you are done, you should have a nice, clean image

This is the end of the tutorial. You now know how to use the Healing Brushes and Patch Tool in Photoshop
